Michael Coolbaugh uses a blend of fundamental, technical and quantitative analysis when evaluating any investment. His clients include hedge funds, mutual funds, family offices and high net worth individuals.
Prior to founding Element Macro, Michael spent three years at K2 Advisors, LLC, a hedge fund-of-funds subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments. While at K2, he was on a small team responsible for the research and implementation of direct trading strategies on portfolios ranging in size from $5 million to $500 million. Michael was also responsible for macroeconomic research and would often present his theses and findings to the firm’s Investment Committee.
In addition to his role at Element Macro Research, Michael regularly contributes to the daily e-letter, Deep State Declassified, and is the editor of the column, ‘Main Street Beat’, as part of the monthly newsletter, The Stockman Letter. He also has his own trading service called, Delta Profit Trader, set to debut in 2020.
Michael spent the first three years of his career at the New York Stock Exchange where he was responsible for analyzing the financial statements and ongoing viability of listed companies. Following the NYSE, he was an Analyst at Paloma Partners Management Company where he supported three portfolio managers on a Merger Arbitrage/Special Situations trading desk. Michael then moved on to proprietary trading firm, Koyote Capital, where he was a global macro trader managing partner capital.
Michael is a Level III Chartered Market Technician candidate. He earned his BA in Financial Economics from University of Rochester in 2010 where he was also a four-year starter for the school’s varsity football program. In 2012, Michael earned his MS in Finance from William E. Simon Graduate School of Business – University of Rochester in 2012 and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the exclusive honor society for business schools
